Make sure you take time to enjoy
the road on the way into the preserve. I drove
down the tree lined dirt road on the way to The Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve, and found myself pulling over several
times to watch birds as they flew back and forth in the trees. When I got to the nature station they had several nectar
feeders hanging up to encourage hummingbirds and provide easy viewing. Right away I saw beautiful trees, trails, streams,
insects, butterflies, and BIRDS! I headed down the trail and was lost in the quiet nature for hours. I was taken aback when
I saw, for the first time, a Gray Hawk lazily soaring in circles overhead. I scrambled to capture him in my camera lens as
I dodged leaves and tree limbs. I was not successful but the image of that light gray hawk is still etched in my mind. After
my hike I was able to take advantage of the clean restroom and large sink at the nature station to clean up before lunch.
It felt so refreshing to splash the cool water on my face. I headed to The Mercedes Cafe in town for lunch and enjoyed delicious
Mexican food on their outside patio while Goldfinces chirped and bounced around on a nearby wooden fence. It was a great
place to relax after a day of birdwatching. I truly escaped into nature that day at The Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve.
